You click and hold the left mouse button while moving around in order to grab knives, because the more of them you have rotating around you, the more power you have, which will also increase your score at the same time. When you approach another player, release the left mouse button in order to enter defense mode, and if you are stronger, you take them out or at least eliminate some of their knives, which you can then grab for yourself.
